Owl on fort

Got woken in the early hours with the call to prayer and some horns hooting and people shouting. We got up for 7am to a bit of a disappointing breakfast. Oranges and the end of a banana were the only fruit. Pancakes aplenty and cake. So it was all carbohydrate unless you fancied a hard boiled egg.

We set off a short way to a stop with a few trees and heading for some scrub. I understood why we shouldn’t drink the water when I saw the open sewer. Not sure if it led to a reservoir or not.

We saw a number of little birds and an owl on the wall of the fort. I tried to take a picture through Robs scope with my phone. Decided I have lens envy now - I want a better bigger lens.

We saw storks on the edge of the water then headed back for the bus.

We stopped at somewhere a bit like a service station. We ordered food and some went off for a bit of a walk. I sat with Bonny and Maria. Lunch was Brochettes- chicken skewers. Rob had an Omlette Berber which seemed to be pesto-ish, peppers and olives with fried eggs.

We drove direct to the hotel where as we arrived we were greeted by three men banging tin drums and three girls wailing. The hotel was amazing. I managed to wash two pairs of socks and half way through realised the sink leaked. It looked a very posh sink - all copper - but it was thin and the seal around the plug hole was leaking.

We went out at 1730 and drove to the desert. We walked around for a bit and saw not only the desert birds we wanted to see but a diamond backed snake as well.

Back to the hotel for 1930. Meet in the bar at 2000 and dinner at 2100. Dinner was a buffet. Not a lot for a veggie option but there was some dried looking fish. It looked salted but wasn’t. I stuck to the chicken.

We had an issue with the waiter over paying for the drinks. He counted the wine glasses and wanted me to pay for wine. I had used the wine glass for the cola I was drinking and he assumed I had wine in it.

I noticed that some roundabouts were the same as traditional French - give way to those coming onto the roundabout.
